Exploration, Encounter, and Exchange.
"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."
Samuel Adams |
Exploration At first glance of this topic, many people will say that it only relates to one of the themes, which will be Encounter due to the action taken by The Sons of Liberty. Through further examination, we discovered that it relates through all three of the E's and it is very hidden. Lets start with the most masked, and hidden of all the E's which will be Exploration. The definition of Exploration is very relative, it can be mean that you found something new, or a new concept. In Boston Tea Party's case it is new concept. In the Boston Tea party colonists threw the tea in the Boston Harbor because there voices weren't heard by Parliament. Before the Boston Tea Party, protests were not common because it was a new concept at the time. In the Era, no one had the nerve to stand up to the British Empire, and The Sons of Liberty were exploring the art of protesting. Protests, letters, riots were formed and many politicians and royal officers were toppled over. The Sons of Liberty were a troublesome street mob, but to the colonists it was hope, because the colonists were tired of the King's limitations on freedom and liberty towards the colonists. This is why it is Exploration, it might be vague and stretched, but this is the exploration The Sons of Liberty did this to wake up the revolution, and to show Parliament that they have the nerve to fight. Exchange The exchange was when the British empire let the British East India company sell tea in America and keep the money made from the selling. The British made the British tea India company tax the Americans on the tea. Tea was very popular at that time so many people bought tea. They were upset because they were having to pay taxes on the tea that they loved. The British tea India company got the sales money while the British empire got the money from the taxes, but America got nothing. This is exchange because it was a deal between the British Tea India company and the Empire, the deal was supposed to be benefiting all three side but only the British Empire and the Company got a surplus amount of money, while the colonists were the third wheel getting a more negative outcome due to the taxation without representation, it enraged the colonists. Encounter The encounter relates to our topic because of the violent riots and protest of our topic. Boston massacre was a street fight between the red coats and the colonists. The red coats shot first causing the colonists to attack them with sticks, stones and snow balls. Also the colonist in December, 16 1773 threw the crates off the boats that carried over 92,000 pounds of tea. The Boston Harbor was closed to trade until the owners of the tea were compensated town meetings were banned, and the Administrative Act was passed putting Boston, Massachusetts under martial law. All of this is encounter because these are all of the riots and violent protest against the British Empire. |
